Lady Gouldian Finches - Breeding Information
Finches are physically able to reproduce at a very early age - as early
as four to five months old. Some, like Zebra finches, will attempt to
breed sooner.  However, to ensure success, you should wait until they
are at least a year old.  Most Lady Gouldian finches will become fairly
consistent and attentive parents by the time they are
two years of age.
Start your birds on eggfood
early - several months
before breeding season - so
that they will feed the
mixture to their chicks!

Download my Excel spreadsheet for an example of my own breeding records and an
easy start for your own
(you must have Microsoft Excel to use this spreadsheet!).

Within the file there are three worksheets, one called
"Inventory" that helps you track
all of your birds, the second, called
"Pair 1", is a pair-breeding page.  It will help you
track which birds you've paired and the outcome.  The third is called "Meds" and is a
very simple form to track medication administration.

The formulas are protected but there is no password.  To unprotect the sheet, merely
go to "Tools" on the tool bar, select "Protection" and click "Unprotect Sheet".  This will
allow you to manipulate the cells at will.
